Unusual network traffic between my laptop and ftp.gnu.org and pub1.kernel.org

During a compilation, I noticed unusual network traffic. I ran "tcpdump -vv -i wlan0" and discovered that my computer was exchanging packets with both ftp.gnu.org and pub1.kernel.org
ps aux|grep ftp gave no results, while netstat --numeric-ports|grep 10514 told me there was an ESTABLISHED connection between my computer and this server.
Is this normal? I have never noticed this...

Solved. make was downloading needed packages
