Keyboard Not Working in Ubuntu

Asked by Abid Hafeez

I have installed ubuntu on Oracle cloud connecting using RDP. I have noticed after connection to the GUI I am unable to log onto my Ubuntu session as the keyboard is not working.

I have changed the settings on the RDP console to make the keyboard work but the issue persists.

I have to keep re-booting to the keyboard to kick in to be able to log in, when the session is locked again the keyboard stops working and need to re-boot again. Also, I am unable to get any sound on my Ubuntu system.

Any ideas of how to resolve these issues.

Thanks

What are you doing on the remote system that needs the full desktop session? There may be a sleeker solution to what you want to achieve.
Exposing an RDP service to the internet is not wise.

Thanks for you assisatnce, I am new to ubuntu and connection prcesses, I am just familrizing myself with the system at the moment and with extensive workings with Microsoft prducts I prefer to work within a GUI environment.

I understant that alot of work on Linux systems is done through the CLI terminals, but also wanted to element of GUI. As previosuly explained the issues is with sound and Keyboard at the moment. I have gone through some documentation to try resolve this but have unable to do so.

As you have specified that RDP may not be the best choice of connection to session what would suggest and hoow would I go about setting it up.

Thanks hope to hear from you soon.

What will you do on the remote system once connected? Why use the GUI?

You can use this guide to set up an SSH tunnel to the service
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-and-configure-vnc-on-ubuntu-22-04

Obviously ignore the VNC parts. You can then RDP down the tunnel. I recommend using SSH keys as the only authentication option and employ fail2ban to keep unwanted users out

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/linux/use-remote-desktop?tabs=azure-cli

Microsoft has an xrdp guide you can use and check your configuration.

Can you help with this problem?
