Unable to Update to 22.10
I've been trying to update to Ubuntu 22.10, but I keep getting a variety of errors (404, authentication, etc.). This is the most recent error I got when trying to update via the GUI:
"W:Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default., W:See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details., E:The repository 'https:/
I tried searching both here and other places online for solutions but haven't had any luck. Would someone be able to help me trouble shoot it?
Thanks,
Sam

It seems that you have screwed up your package management configuration files.
And - whatever you have done to make this happen - your question description is unintelligible, because all newline characters got lost.
Please open a terminal window and execute the following commands:
uname -a
lsb_release -crid
sudo apt update
find /etc/apt -name '*.list' -exec bash -c 'echo -e "\n$1\n"; cat -n "$1"' _ '{}' \;
and copy/paste the output into this question document.

Hey Manfred,
Here's the output of those commands. As you can see at a certain point when I was trying to work with it, it started trying to use old releases instead of ubuntu archive.

Edit the file /etc/apt/
Change all "impish" to "jammy".
Put a comment indicator ("# ") in front of all lines that start with "deb-src", where that is missing
Put a comment indicator ("# ") in front of the first lines in the sources.list file that starts with "deb-cdrom"
I do not know how the opensuse peruse repository lines have to look like, please search the web and adapt them accordingly.
The same for the microsoft edge key.

You should also run:
sudo rm /etc/apt/

Change the first line of the /etc/apt/sources list to
# deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 21.10 _Impish Indri_ - Release amd64 (20211012)]/ impish main restricted
remove all strings " [allow-
Issue the command
sudo rm /etc/apt/
And then try again.
Let's see how many problems that solves and how many are left.

1. Sorry for an error on my side.
The server name should be archive.ubuntu.com (instead of archives, without s) please change it accordingly (or see item 2 below)
2. Who told you to change http to https for the archive(
That server works only with http. If you want to have a https connection, then you have to select a different mirror with https enabled from the list in https:/
3. For the Microsoft key error the following two commands might help:
curl https:/
sudo install -o root -g root -m 644 microsoft.gpg /etc/apt/

Oh, there is another unexpected change:
At the beginning you had in your sources.list file "http://
My advice was changing from "old-releases.
What you did in addition was changing from "http" to "https" and you also removed "/ubuntu"!
Please re-add /ubuntu at the end of the server link, such that all lines in the sources.list file which refer to the Ubuntu repositories look like this
deb http://
(and equivalent for deb-src at the beginning; and also for jammy-updates and jammy-backports and also if the lines ends with restricted, multiverse or universe)
(It does not make a difference whether the line ends with /ubuntu or /ubuntu/)
And finally in the configuration file /etc/apt/

Sorry for my misunderstanding with the /ubuntu. Thank you for your patience with all of this! I made all of these changes and it got ride of the vast majority of the errors and I was able to start the update. But midway through I got this error message:

no official mirrors listed in your software sources, or because of
excessive load on the mirror you are using. See /etc/apt/

In the case of an overloaded mirror, you may want to try the upgrade

1. "https:/
There still seems to be an outdated value in your configuration.
I already wrote at the end of comment #10:
And finally in the configuration file /etc/apt/
Have you done that? if yes, then there must be the outdated string "impish" somewhere else in your sources.list* configuration files.
And for the error message in the release upgrade attempt:
2. Why do you want to upgrade to 22.10? Are you aware that this is a short-lived release with the end of its support in half a year's time?
3. What is the output of the command
dpkg -l | grep -e minimal -e desktop

I believe I did change all of the instances of impish to jammy. I just searched the file again and couldn't find anything marked impish.
I do understand that it's not an LTS release. I'd read about the updates to the UI and wanted to check it out. But mainly I just want to fix this issue so I'm able to run updates when I want/need to.

Remark:
in the first line of the file /etc/apt/
# deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 21.10 _jammy Indri_ - Release amd64 (20211012)]/ jammy main restricted
the strings "jammy" should be modified back to "impish" (the first occurrence with capital I)
# deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 21.10 _Impish Indri_ - Release amd64 (20211012)]/ impish main restricted
because that is the identification of the installer that you used for installing Ubuntu on your system.

What you should do with the files in /etc/apt/
If you do not need a repository that is listed in one of these files any more, then you should delete the related file.
If you have a specific reason that you need one of the repositories, then you should edit the related file and update the release name.
