incorrect esm date

Asked by paul bevington

I have livepatch enabled on my desktop but extended security maintenance date is 31/12/99 which is not correct as I am running ubuntu22.04 which only went live in April 2022 and with extended security maintenance should take it through to 2027

Which action do you execute to see this, where exactly do you see that date?

It seem to me that you are mixing mix up dates.

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS currently is within its full support period, and being a LTS (long term support) release, this will stay like that until April 2027.
In April 2027 standard support will end and ESM will start for Ubuntu 22.04, and will last until April 2032.

The correct end date of ESM for Ubuntu 22,04 will probably be some day in April 2032, but due to the fact that ESM has not even started, I would not expect that the end date is already fixed.

I am seeing this in the software and updates app under updates it says
for other packages this system has extended security maintenance active
until 31/12/99 which is wrong no matter which way you look at it because
1999 has long gone and 2099 is still seventy seven years away.

If you see that ESM is active on an Ubuntu 22.04 system. then this is nonsense, because ESM does not even exist for Ubuntu 22.04 yet.

In an attempt to understand what's happening, please provide the following information:

What is the output of the following commands:

uname -a
lsb_release -crid
ua status
ua security-status

How did you install this system? Was this an install with an earlier Ubuntu release that has been upgraded (if yes, which release and was ESM activated there), or is this a new installation of Ubuntu 22.04?

You can copy and paste to and from a terminal window, but not by using ctrl-c and ctrl-v.

You either have to use shift-ctrl-c and shift-ctrl-v or do a click with the right mouse button and select copy respectively paste from the pop-up window.

I have tried shift-ctrl-c andshift-ctrl-pasteand it doesn't work and
when I right click mouse button both copy and paste are greyed out so
that doesn't work either.

Which kind of terminal are you using?

Try the key shortcut ctrl-alt-t for opening the terminal.

that's the only way I open the terminal all your answers don't work so I
will be ignoring anything else you come up with.

If you can not copy and paste on your computer you may have a
hardware problem such as: try changing the mouse.
Here is the documentation for Livepatch.
https://ubuntu.com/security/livepatch/docs
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS 64-bit x86 Uses Kernel 5.15 (GA)

Did you attach your Ubuntu Advantage Token.
https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/enable-the-livepatch-service#1-overview

https://ubuntu.com/security/livepatch/docs/client/enabling
Ubuntu 22.04 is under standard support until April 2027

Can you help with this problem?
