Ubuntu Studio 22.04 Hard Crash

Asked by Hipo

by hard crash i mean complete reinstall needed.

i am new to linux so i apologize in advance if this issue is on the wrong forum, launchpad or tracker. I have no hard data. please dear mods put this in the right place, this one is just the first i found. maybe this is a common issue.

i had to do multiple reinstalls of ubuntu studio 22.04 after trying to copy large-ish files over to and from other drives or uploading to youtube. they were 5GB and 3GB in size respectivly. the machine froze and the desktop crashed, like the title bar disappeared, came back, but then the kill button was necessary to reboot.

when restarting, the grub said something like "can't find snap deamon". the machine ran for about 5 minutes and froze again, each subsequent reboot getting less healthy. like the system eating itself. after the fourth or fifth reboot it would go straight to ubox(?) terminal, but typing reboot wouldn't yield any results. i'mno terminal user, especially not in the void, so that's where i left it at.

accessing /home from usb live wasn't possible. the folder had a lock icon on and showed up empty. the data wasn't lost tho. the third time i installed / and /home on different partitions and after the fourth crash i could just overwrite the /root and keep truckin.

if this happens again i hope to be able to bring up more information. feel free to point me to some steps i could take the next time around. i was so stressed out the last times i couldn't bring myself to do any research.

thanks
