Duplex printing of IPP printer (Epson BX535WD) not working correctly anymore

Asked by gernophil

Hey everyone,
since I updated to Ubuntu 22.04 my printer isn’t able to print duplex correctly. Not sure, if there has been a recent update. If I select duplex, the printer prints every other page switched to 180 degrees, but he fails to pull the page back and prints the other side of the page and just prints this on a new page. This happens on two independent 22.04 machines. So, it is reproducible. Duplex still works on Windows an did flawlessly in 20.04 on both machines. This seems to be a clear driver issue of the IPP driverless „drivers“ used in 22.04. I am not sure, if it worked few weeks ago even in 22.04. But it did, if I remember correctly. So, this could be due to a buggy update. I will check this with a different printer model this week.

I never needed the epson drivers before. It was always possible to print duplex via driverless IPP printing.

I have the same problem with HP LaserJet Professional P1606dn. It worked fine on 20.04. Installing HP drivers through sudo apt install hplip hplip-gui does not help, and problem is still present.
