Picture Editor for Ubuntu

Asked by Geoff Johnson

I am a half-reasonable mainly amateur artist, and photographer. I do water-colours on cartridge paper, and am a second-rate cartoonist. I would like to try to do some artwork on my (now working very well) computer system. I had Linux Mint for about a year, now I am on Ubuntu. I am thinking of something like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop to manipulate images. I had been recommended Daz Studio, but not sure if it works on Ubuntu. Can anyone recommend a (preferably simple) Photo Editor/Painter package which I can use please? Erm... cost is also a factor - I am a pensioner. Hopefully, there is a freebee around that I could install. Many thanks, Geoff. Johnson (Ubuntu user for just over a month now!)

Thank you Manfred. I have bookmarked those links, and will dig into them. I get concerned about using command lines like sudo... etc, in fact the command line does not come up easily on my machine. I prefer to do any installs via the GUI system, it looks more "official". I will try to transfer my painting skills to GIMP or Krita. Thanks again for the information. Geoff. J.
