direct rendering

I have ubuntu 7.04 installed on my system.How do I enable 3d acceleration,direct rendering on my computer to enable desktop effects.Whenever in enable desktop effects the screen goes white and nothing happens.This happens with Beryl also.I cannot even watch full screen videos and play 3d chess.My PC has a P4 processor with 256 MB RAM with 3.00 ghz.

Thanks for your question. You ca post the result of thi command:

$: lspci

To help you we need to know your cipset video card. After we have this info we can found a right way to enable the 3d. Thanks many

my video card is Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset family

Can't get direct rendering on my IBM T23 (S3 SuperSavage video card) woring under Fiesty (Ubuntu 7.04) but it worked in past releases.

same here catchit, i also would like to know why things got screwed up all of a sudden...
