Can't fathom shotwell. Can I use PIX as on Linux Mint? How?

I have an Olympus camera, have copied up the photos on my old XP machine by using Olympus Master software. On Linux Mint, I used PIX, simple and similar to copy up into a selected folder. Ubuntu only offers Shotwell, which seems a muddle, and I cannot get my photos into simple folders that I have created. Can I use PIX? Is there a help guide for Shotwell? Can I install Olympus Windows software on Ubuntu? I have only had Ubuntu for less than a month. All seems good except for Shotwell. Any help appeciated. Many thanks, Geoff. Johnson.

A command-line tool to download picturs and control still digital cameras based on Sierra Imaging chipset and compatibles (Olympus, Nikon, Epson, Agfa and some others).

I have not tested it. It is for Linux.

 Dear Sir,
A belated reply and thank you for the information links.  I will work my way through them.  Meanwhile, I have beenadvised that the Spring update is now on offer, but so far I have not installed it.  At least Ubuntu does two updatesper year, unlike the Linux Mint that bombards the user with updates on a daily basis.  It seems much more organized!
