Ubuntu 9.04 very slow on Lenovo T61

Asked by Jinx

Im running since 2 days ago Ubuntu 9.04. Most stuff work out of the box, everything is working, but the over performance of the system is super slow. If I try to use compiz, its a bit faster, but I have to use compiz with SKIP_CHECKS=yes, due to my graphics card which is Intel Mobile GM965/GL960. Doesnt matter that compiz is on or off still the windows are drawen quite slowly and poorly.

Im not sure whats the issue, but with Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 the speed of the system was super and was also super stable.
Where it is some info on my system:

Jaunty + intel = bugs at the moment and its affecting a lot of people due the then intel chips being used in loads of netbooks as they are low power and cheap

All I can say is hang in there and a fix will be released for jaunty, or you can roll back to intrepid or hardy for the performance increase.

This is not quite the answer I was waiting for... I mean I get it is a bug, but at least to know when is gonna be fixed. A lot of laptop/netbooks this days use this type of video card, which means most of them can't use Ubuntu at all or with a lot of problems, this is a big NO NO for Ubuntu.

hi jinx, actionparsnip,

i get the same performance errors you had comment, with probably the same laptop: thinkpad t61 8896-AB5. I know that this is not an answer ;-( but just trying to share that must be a pretty extended problem.

regards,

Can you help with this problem?
