Wayland issues under Focal 20.04.4LTS

Asked by Jaime Cruz

Since Wayland is going to be the default in Jammy I figured I better get used to it. I have a fully up to date Focal 20.04.4LTS system and I just logged in using Wayland rather than the default Xorg.

1) caffeine-indicator is in my start-ups, but does not start on boot. If I start it manually, it runs just fine.
2) Apparently you can't use Alt-R and "r" to restart Gnome under Wayland. How does one do it?
3) The "Show Applications" icon at the bottom of the launcher doesn't do anything at all.

Hope these aren't going to be an issue when Jammy rolls around.

How are you starting caffeine-indicator automatically please?
Which desktop environment are you using?

The ALT+R seems self expanatory. Press ALT + R on the keyboard..... Am I missing something here

Yeah, I didn't proof read before submitting. "Alt+F2" and then "r" to restart the shell. That doesn't work in Wayland, works just fine with Xorg. I'm using the default Gnome environment that comes with Ubuntu.

As for caffeine indicator, there is an application called "Startup Applications." I have the start up for caffeine and caffeine indicator in there.

If you look in

~/.config/autostart

Do you see a .desktop file for the caffeine application?

I checked /usr/share/applications and I see .desktop files for both caffeine and caffeine-indicator.

There is a caffeine-indicator.desktop file in the ~/.config/autostart folder as well.

Thanks,

Certain Apps still require X.org not Wayland.
This one of those situations for the app to work and perform correctly.
It is easy to toggle between X and Wayland, the login screen has a gear on the right to start
X which for now everything works correctly.
Please put in a Bug report using ubuntu-bug wayland
In the terminal. Which should start Apport.
Without Apport the bug report will be considered incomplete. and will be disregarded.
