Installing Ubuntu 9.04 from CD will it erase all my files and programs from 8.04 Hardy

I began a CD installation of Ubuntu 9.04 on my Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy) and then quit because I am afraid it will erase all my files and programs that I am using. If I do install 9.04 will it erase everything from 8.04? Please let me know. Thank you.

While installing it will ask you to keep old program or not.
