printer driver hangs when searching

Asked by Timhotep

I installed a print driver and chose the wrong printer. If I open properties and click on change, it pops up a message saying 'searching for drivers' but hangs. I have to close the pop-up with X and it asks if I want to force close. The only way to change the driver is remove and start from scratch.

I can remove it just fine. The problem is, when you click on 'change' to select a different driver, it says 'searching' but it never brings up the printer list.

If it is USB have you tried a different USB cable?

OK. First, this has NOTHING to do with printing or the cable.
This is what happens:
1) open printers (menu/admin/printers
2) right click on an installed printer, select properties
3) next to 'Make and Model', click 'change'. Change driver dialog pops up,
as well as pop-up saying 'Searching for drivers'. But the list never appears.
4) Click on 'X' and select 'Force close' to exit.

If I simply remove the driver and start anew, it works fine.

Can you help with this problem?
