using chrome video goes uncontrolled in 18 and 20

Is this on YouTube? If so, have you tried other streaming sites?

It is not on utube, and is not related to streaming sites.

Oh so local media. Do they play OK in something like VLC?

One thing I noticed is that this machine has NVIDIA for the video.

I do not use social media, and implementation of VLC does not solve the problem. I also found that LinuxMint has a similar problem, just not as severe. It does appear that everything works OK in text mode, but once a video of some sort is initiated, the screen representation is overlaid with various shapes and becomes unreadable.I now have a solution that I will use at least for now, don't use chrome on this machine, use one of the others.

Mint is based on Ubuntu so testing in Mint isn't really effective.
