How did you install Firefox and Thunderbird?

Which "applications view" are you talking about?

Hello,

The "applications view" is this: https://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/14.png

I didn't install Firefox and Thunderbird, it’s the default installation.

I precise that my Impish is an upgrade of Hirsute, maybe it’s a bug in the upgrade.

If you type the name "firefox" in the search, does it show?

Yes it shows, also for thunderbird.

The two dots on the bottom of the image that you posted indicates that there is a second page of applications. Maybe firefox and thunderbird are shown only on the second page?

If a search shows them anyhow, what is the problem?

I know what the dots mean and the problem is that these two applications do not appear in any page of the view, only in a search.

What is the output of

gedit /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop

I think that's the filename, this is the file that shows Firefox in the application search

I found out why these applications are not in the view. It's because they are in the favorites in the dock.
Indeed, if I add an application to the favorites, it disappears immediately from the view.

What's the rationale behind that weird idea ?
