Do the install CD images ever get updated with bug fixes?

Asked by Steven Willis

I've heard that there are several bugs in Jaunty with video, wireless, and sound. I understand that the issues will eventually be worked out, and the affected packages will be updated. But what about the original install CD? If I decide to wait a couple of months before upgrading to Jaunty, will I still run into the issues anyway because the install CD is exactly the same as it is now?

Is there an easy way to generate a new install CD with the updated packages and updated install procedure?

I believe that ISOs for LTS (long term support) releases do get updated but other releases don't. So the install CD for jaunty won't change if you wait. However, packages in the repos are updated if a bug is serious enough. So if you run synaptic / apt-get etc install, you will get the fixes. I'm not sure whether you could generate an updated install CD without installing first. I think you would need to search on "remastering install CD" to find more info.

Oh, i thought they all got updated from time to time. It often seems worth downloading a new iso for a new install because there seems to be less updates sometimes than with iso's downloaded previously. Just my impression though. i haven't read-up about this

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
