There was a BIOS update 5 days ago. This may help. It may be that the hardware in the system needs the newer kernel in Focal so if you can get this updated (mainline PPA should do it) then this may help too but I'd go for the BIOS update as well

Hi @actionparsnip thanks for the help, as you have mentioned system needs newer kernel for focal, does that also mean I need to update the kernal for my ubuntu 18.04 as well? as i am using 18.04 right now

Yes just grab a kernel from the mainline PPA and you'll be OK

should i go with latest 5.14 kernal or would you suggest a version? because I have just gone installing new kernal version 5.14.7 and it gave me one dependency error also the sound and brightness didn't work. And also I am relatively new to ubuntu and am little scared if something goes wrong. I would be very very grateful if you could help me with this. Thanks a ton in advance.

Hi actionparsnip when I installed I finally got this error below, and also i tried restarting after the below operation. at the bootup it is saying to load kernal first for 5.14. So as i have an another option to load ubuntu with 5.4 i have proceeded with that, because with 5.14 it is not loading the ubuntu. Just an additional info, in /sys/class/backlight folder is empty, and in the settings details it is showing llvmpipe (LLVM 10.0.0, 256 bits), which i assume is because the o.s has not detected the hardware graphic card which here in my case is intel iris xe(saw in bios).

The 5.14 version of the kernel needs a libc6 version that is higher than the one available in Ubuntu 18.04 . So you cannot use the 5.14 kernel on your system (unless you do all kind of tricks or upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04).
You should uninstall those packages again.
