comment installer real player

Asked by Pierre Courtemanche

I made a fresh intallation of UBUNTU. I tried to install RealPlayer, but it failed.
I followed exactely the procedure to do, but the TERMINAL told to me that it cannot find the file.
For to be sure about the exact download location, I download the Realplayer file into; PERSONAL file, Desktop location, and into My Documents, and with these 3 locations, sudo said; unable to execute ./RealPlayer11Gold.bin: No such file or directory.
I'm able to deal easyly with Windows XP, Vista, Mac OS X, but the installation' procedure about RealPlayer does't work well with UBUNTU.
It must be most clear and must be more assisted by the OS.
In meantime, how can I installed RealPlayer. I don,t understand this time what failed. I SUCCEEDED VERY WELL WITH THE FORMER VERSION OF UBUNTU 8.10 INTREPID IBEX.
Thank's for your help,
Pierre Courtemanche

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

Hi,

Please follow this procedure to install and launch RealPlayer:

Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->
Terminal"

Step 2: Enter the following command into the terminal:

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

# Add the following line to the end of the /etc/apt/sources.list file and then save the change:

deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ jaunty free non-free

Step 3: Enter the following 2 commands into the terminal:

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install realplayer

Step 4: You can then run the command realplayer to launch it.

Regards,

Mark

I've done everything you said but I still can't find RealPlayer. As you can guess I'm a RealBeginner and I'm totally lost !
