Chirp Software will not work on Unbuntu 20 or 21.

Asked by None of your business

I can't find anything for either Windows 10 or Ubuntu that will run the Chirp or any other Radio Programming software.

Found that with the simplest Web search...

The second link is a bit nasty. I've not tried it myself. Looks nasty

There is a very new version of the chirp-daily package in dansmith's PPA
https://launchpad.net/~dansmith/+archive/ubuntu/chirp-snapshots/+packages

The commands

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dansmith/chirp-snapshots
sudo apt update
sudo apt install chirp-daily

should be sufficient.

Thanks. However per the website, Ubuntu apparently changed the OS and
removed key items that are needed for Chirp to run. Also nothing
available above ver 18, not for the 21.04 I'm running.

Typical of programmers, fix one thing and foul up ten more.

1. There is no "Ubuntu 20" or "21" or "ver 18"
Ubuntu release numbers have two pairs of digits, e.g. 20.04, 20.10, 21.04 or 21.10 see https://ubuntu.com/about/release-cycle

2. What output do you receive for the commands
uname -a
lsb_release -crid
apt-cache policy chirp
apt --simulate install chirp

21.04
There is only one release each.

It appears Ubuntu will not work. The Chinese vendor Baofeng furnished a
driver, but since they pirated software and firmware stolen from others, it
doesn't work either.

Thanks for your help. At this point I plan to scrap the Chinese junk and
hope to find Made in America again.

Also output commands, none. The Chirp software doesn't see the driver.
Windows 10 with Prolific 3.2.2x older driver used to work, until Windows 10
updated. The radio starts the download, then claims that the radio is not
communicating.

I hate Windows anything, so I hope Ubuntu will work. I'm reluctant of
Windows 11 that was recently released.

What you are writing does not make any sense.

This is the question area for Ubuntu. If you want to discuss the problems that you have with Windows 10, then you are wrong here.

If you want help with chirp on Ubuntu, then please provide the output that you receive for the four commands that I have given. They do produce output when executed in a terminal window on Ubuntu.

You can also try the flatpack version from https://trac.chirp.danplanet.com/chirp_daily/LATEST/
Maybe that works better.
