Do you use the safe remove function in the OS before you eject it?
What file system is the SDCard using?
What is the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a

If you reboot and log in without the SDCard inserted, log in then push in the SDCard. Open a terminal and run:

dmesg | tail

What is the output?

Are you trying to make a media to install Ubuntu with or just store data?

You have given near zero details.... How can you expect anyone to help. We aren't psychic. You need to tell us what you are doing and what you see and then what you expect to see. Simply stating that an SDCard isn't functioning isn't very useful....
