Ubuntu 14.04 doesn't start.

Asked by Ivan

I've found an old server with ubuntu. When a start it, everything goes OK until MySQL starts.
I mean it shows: "Starting MySQL Server [OK]" and nothing happens after that.
I don't see classical CLI root@server. All I can do is ctrl+alt+del to reboot.
Whats' wrong?

Why not do a fresh install of 20.04?
14.04 is outdated and potentially insecure unless you have a paid ESM contract.

Maybe it is possible to boot the system by selecting "advanced mode - root command prompt" from the grub menu.
Another possibility is booting from an Ubuntu installer (on DVD or bootable USB device) in the "Try Ubuntu without installing" mode and then "chroot"-ing into the old installation on the hard disk.

Can you help with this problem?
