Kubuntu hangs at booting

Asked by Luis M.Jacinto

Kubuntu 20.04.2.0
After having problems with booting from USB I eventually sussed and install it.
Booting Kubuntu only shows a black screen and the HDD led on all the time.
I try the way that I got USB going which was pressing Shift while booting the Grub
screen comes with only Recovery or Generic start, click Recovery goes through the process
and then black screen and HDD led on and nothing else.
Can some one please help to correct this
Thank you

Does the system have a make and model?
What video chip(s) is/are in use?
if you wait for the black screen and press CTRL + ALT + F1 do you see a login prompt. You can log in there and run updates. This may help

CTRL + ALT + F1 open a page with “Loading initial ramdisk” and nothing else.

Is this a new installation on the hard disk?
Do you already have private data on that system?

The quickest way to repair most probably is a new installation overwriting the old one, but eventually required additional steps depend on the amount of data that have to be kept.

Yes new installation.
No data never seen Kubuntu except when in Try Kubuntu.
There is a problem on booting from USB drive.
Booting from USB drive it comes to main page Try Kubuntu and Install pressing Try or Install does nothing and after a few seconds the page turns black with only the cursor (arrow) in the screen and it hangs.
I verified SHA256 sum which correct created 2 USB drives and tried both.
I though it could be graphics card but I have Ubuntu 20.04 it works very well.
Should I carry on reinstall or is there another way?

Just to make sure that I understand correctly:

It is already the installer that gives only a black screen as soon as you press "Ty Ubuntu" or "Install Ubuntu"?
Or were you able to go through the install process already once?

Yes the installer USB has the problem of came to black screen.
I keep pressing Shift on booting from USB and after while a Welcome screen come up
click on "Try Kubuntu" it worked normally, I power off and reboot the same way before
click on Install Kubuntu" and screen went black the HDD led stays on all the time
until a switch off the computer.

"the HDD led stays on all the time"

Is there activity on the hard disk (if it is a real hard disk, you should hear changing sounds from the heads moving)?
