Asked by David Wilson

I updated my NUC N3050 from 18.04LTS to 20.04LTS
I then start up firefox and then click on (for example BBC Radio) and select a track to listen to.
I get a loud cracking sound then it works until it finishes and I get another pop.

This did not happen with18.04LTS.

If you make a fresh Ubuntu user then log in as this, is the system the same?

Yes it is the same.
When logged in with the new user, I had to adjust Settings -> Sound -> Output -> Output Device -> Digital Output to Analogue Output.
Then I clicked the Test button followed by the Front Left button.
I got two loud pops, "Front Left", a delay, one soft pop.
