No Internet connection

Asked by Stefank

I am unable to connect to the Internet via my desktop or my laptop, both using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. The problem happened after installing updates last night. Today both computers search for a connection,, then disconnect then search, then discnnect etc etc. Both computers are two years old and I have tried both wired and wireless connections.

I can connect to WiFi on an android phone. I'm baffled and really need help to get online as usual.

Are you aware that support for Ubuntu 16.04 has already ended (5 years after its publication on 2016-04-21, it is now in ESM status)?

You should plan an upgrade to a supported release in due course.

Which kind of connection does not work - cabled, or wireless or both?
Have you verified that the router works correctly?

How time flies! I am surprised I didn't get a warning when I updated. Is there a way to restore Internet access so that I can install the new LTS? Both my desktop and laptop recognise the WiFi and wired connection, but a cannot connect. There is no problemwith the router asI have Internetaccess via android smartphone.

Have you tried restarting the router?

Yes, that worked! I have no idea why it works, but thank you so much.
