Mouse doesn't click or show

Asked by Leslie Morales

I'm not super familiar with Ubuntu. I have version 18.04. I cannot seem to get the mouse to work. It will not show when I use the mouse integration and I can't click on anything on the screen. I also can't get a terminal up to check updates. "ctrl-alt-t" takes a snapshot of the screen instead of open a terminal. I've tried different methods from looking it up online but no luck because a lot of it happens inside a terminal. It was just working a few days ago. Can anyone help me troubleshoot the issue?

For diagnostic purposes (and as workaround for opening a terminal window) proceed as follows:

Press Alt-F2
You will see a small pop-up window
type into this window
gnome-terminal
and press the Enter key.

This should open a terminal window. If it doesn't, then please tell us what exactly happened.

In the terminal window enter the commands

uname -a
lsb_release -crid
lsusb

Copy all output and paste it into your question document.
