gcc perl package missing

Asked by Madeline on 2021-03-23

I just downloaded Ubuntu onto a VirtualBox today. I tried to install guest additions but it says gcc perl package is missing. I tried to install it following the instructions of forums with the same issue but it doesn't work and just says the package cannot be located.

Which version of Ubuntu did you install?

What is the exact text of the error message?
Is it "Please install the gcc make perl packages from your distribution." ?
Then you have to install the packages "gcc", "make" and "perl". All of them are available in Ubuntu.

Try with the commands

sudo apt update
sudo apt install gcc make perl
sudo /sbin/rcvboxadd quicksetup all

and report the results.
