kubuntu 20.04 fresh install opens html files in Calibre

Asked by Alf HP Lund

On a fresh install of kubuntu-desktop, after trying to report a bug, Calibre opens. Changing settings for html files in the System Settings App achieves nothing.

Opening Doplhin file manager and right-clicking on an html file allows me to set them to open with firefox.

Not sure if this qualifies as a bug, but certainly it is annoying. Also unsure which package is the cause for this, but I think that 1, the default program for handling html files should be firefox, and 2, changing settings in System settings App should achieve the same result as right-clicking files and selecting programs in Dolphin.

So if this should be reported as a bug, which package is 'guilty'?

If you hover over an html file and right click you have options Open with: and Open with another application. Firefox is on this list.
Then click Do this with this type of file from now on. Check mark the Box : Do this from now on with this type of file.
Then each time you click on a html file it will automatically open with Firefox.
It is not a bug.

Thank you for answering. I understood how to make html files open with firefox.

I do not understand why a fresh install would default to open html files with Calibre.

But since it is not a bug I'm closing the thread. Thanks again.

With all of Linux right click the file you can associate the app, ie program that opens it with a list of applications if not listed you can select from a list of every application of the OS the applicable needed application to open the file. Check marking the box to do this from now on will open that type of file each time.
