Installing Windows 10 alongside my Ubuntu installation

Asked by Steven Langner on 2021-02-03

After completely wiping my hard drives, I installed Ubuntu 20.10. I would like to install Windows 10 on another hard drive, and still have the option of booting to either one.

How do I go about doing that?

Installing Windows to a different hard drive than the one with Ubuntu should be rather straightforward.
Boot a Windows installer DVD and install it. You have to select the other hard disk as target for the installation.
After that you should be able to use the boot disk selector of the BIOS to select WIndows or Ubuntu, or - if you boot Ubuntu once and run "sudo update-grub" - you should have Windows also as possible selection in Ubuntu's Grub boot loader.
