Psensor’s settings or malfunctions?

Asked by Navin Talati

Dear Friends,

I have installed Psensor – Temperature Monitor since Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Now the OS is upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04. In my machine the MoBo is Asus M4A88T-M, Processor is AMD Phenom(tm) II x 555, 4 HDDs and 1 ODD. Upon upgrading, the Graphic Card is removed. System works fine.
On the display of Psensor, there shows 3 types of Fan Speeds (CPU FAN, POWER FAN, & CHASIS FAN). The speed figure of POWER FAN ranges from 0 (zero) to 675000.

What that POWER FAN is?
What the figure indicates?
How to rectify?
Should I remove the utility and reinstall again?

My self, Upgrade to 20.04. If by some reason Psensor does not work, then reinstall.
Note, the above package has many dependencies needed to function correctly.
For that reason is why I use Synaptic Package Manager to install packages.

Power supply fan. Figure would be RPM of the fan speed.

You are advised not to manually download packages for installing, but to use the package management system.

What is wrong with your current psensor installation that it needs a "How to rectify?"

The wrong with my current installation of Psensor is "...The speed figure of POWER FAN ranges from 0 (zero) to 675000..."

Does your system have a power fan, and what are its technical capabilities?
What do you expect to see in psensors with respect to it?

Dear sir,

In my system the MoBo is Asus M4A88T-M and the Processor is AMD Phenom(tm) II x 555. There are following types of FANs in the system. (Actually I do not know what Power Fan is?)

1. FAN on CPU connected to CPU_FAN connector on MoBo
2. FAN on Chasis connected to CHA_FAN connector on MoBo
3. TWO FANS are on the Front Side of Computer Cabinet (Cooler Master HAF XBOX EVO model) and they are connected to PSU (Cooler Master 800 W Silent Pro GOLD) directly.
4. The PSU (Cooler Master 800 W Silent Pro GOLD) has its own FAN to cool it.

I understand that Fans 1 & 2 are only sensed by the Pasensor. CPU FAN Speed & CHASIS FAN Speed values varies in the range of 4 figure RPM. It seems ok. Here the Psensor also indicates RPM under title POWER FAN Speed which varies from 0 to 6 figure (say 675000) RPM. This value appeares since inception of its installation.

I am confused which this Fan is? Why it shows such non-relavent figure of RPM?
Please guide.

sudo sensors-detect
Be sure to follow the onscreen dialog and reply no when needed. This will scan all of the sensors on the motherboard you should be able to determine which by the values that are applied. Most likely you are referring to your #4 reply fan. It has been denoted that the actual RPM scale may not be entirely accurate for Psensor.

Can you help with this problem?
