Unable to view ClamAV's information file or update DATS

Asked by Ram97

Clam AV does not run on Ubuntu 7.04. I've installed and uninstalled it several times using add/remove. When I try to run it I get a error of Unable to view ClamAV's information file. I am also not able to update the DATS from within clams GUI interface. I have tried running the "freshclam -v" command after sudo-1 in terminal but it still does not find the files. I am assuming this happens since the DATS are not there. Any help would be appreciated. Clam AV worked fine on the older version of Ubuntu. Are there any other AV programs that can work with Ubuntu 7.04 in a GUI format?

Hello !

For the root access, although there is a root user in Ubuntu, by default the password is not given and so you use the sudo command to perform administrative tasks ...

You don't really need a root access, but you can log in as root in a console by issuing 'sudo su -' and providing your user password ...

If you really need a root access, be warned that it could be a security issue ... Post back if you still want more information on how to set a password for your root access ...

For your initial question, I have no idea ... But why do you need ClamAV ? Do you run a mail server or something like that ??

Regards,
Benoît
