Black holes on desktop Kubuntu 18.04

Asked by CHEN

Hi,

Since I programed activities, I guess, I get black wholes on screen when launching applications.

See the desktop before launching an app https://www.webologix.com/media/public/before.png

And after: https://www.webologix.com/media/public/after.png

Then, any clic on any window restores the screen correctly: https://www.webologix.com/media/public/then.png

Ubuntu 8.04 is not supported any more, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

@Manfred, if you look at the other questions the user has asked recently (and the screenshots), it is obviously a typo and should be 18.04.

All of the .PNGs that you posted I seen nothing wrong with any of them. No distortions at all in any of them.
I seen NO type of holes of any type in any of the screens that you posted.

3 images should have exactly the same background image. All the black in "after.png" is wrong and filled back in capture "then.png"

Looks as if you have a black screen instead of a desktop wallpaper is all. You can right click the black part of the screen and select Change Background -> image or (picture) of your choice. Instead of the black screen.

To check your screen resolution - Open a terminal and type: xrandr

1. I strongly recommend that you correct the version number of Ubuntu in the title of your question

2. Is the problem repeatable?
Do always the same parts of the screen background disappear, or does it look somewhat random?

Yes the problem was repeatable.

Background ddid not dissapear randomly. It depended on the windows geometry opened.

The problem disappeared since reboot. I guess it was an incomplete Ubuntu upgrade that was asking for reboot that was at the problem's origin

Thanks for your support

Ho,

Sorry to come back on this but the problem came back next day. Here is a video that will show what happens better than words:

https://www.webologix.com/media/public/blackhole.bug.ogv

I had some troubles to install the right drivers on that machine and believe there still have some more work.
