SAXOTRADER2

Asked by Bethune

i need to open an exe file from a bank which will allow me to trade with the saxotrader2 platform from saxobank. Unfortunatly this is an windows application and the technical it staff of this bank cannot give me the service to inform me how to run the saxotrader under my kubuntu feisty distribution. Following their device i'll need to have a windows controlled pc to run this programm.

I've tried to use wine to open and dowload the saxotrader exe file...it is working and downloading the necessary files but is crashing while the necessary Microsoft.Net 2.0 runtime file cannot be installed on my harddisk. Is ther somebody who knows how to deal with the compatibility of saxotrader2 to linux and which steps to be done to run the saxotrader with my kubuntu distribution.

Thanks for your help!!

Thanks for your question.
From the faq, apparently there is no linux version.

i looked at the wine application database ( http://appdb.winehq.org/ ) and this application is not recognised, maybe you can add it in the database.

Hello,
You should run wine as a user, not as root.

Are you sure the .exe file is on your Desktop and you used the correct filename (case sensitive) ?

Please run the following command in a terminal and report the result here.
ls ~/Desktop/Saxo*

I think you have this problems because you ran wine as root.
If you didn't install other wine programs, you can delete your wine directory so it will be recreated clean.
Please run the following:

sudo rm -rf ~/.wine
wine /home/bethune/Desktop/SaxoTrader2_WEBDeploy.exe

From the Wine FAQ:

Can I install Microsoft .NET or an application that needs it?

Currently .NET apps do not run in Wine mainly due to the fact that .NET itself (1 or 2) will not install in Wine. You can try installing Mono but that only works for a fraction (read <1%) of programs so at the moment you are better off finding an alternative program or waiting till .NET is implemented in Wine one way or another.

If you really need this application I think you should try with a virtual machine or a dual-boot installation: both requires a copy of WinXP.

I tried Version 2 (i.e the .Net version) but I had no luck so I installed Saxotrader version 1 (i.e. the non .Net version). Free Wine (www.winehq.org) was giving me too much grief so I just used CrossOver from Codeweavers. You have to pay a little bit for Crossover but the install process is pretty straight forward so it's worth it.

Hope this helps

Bob, could you please add saxotrader to the wine application database so that we can track the progress of wine with it ?
http://appdb.winehq.org/
Register an account and then click on "Submit Application"

Thanks
