9.04 64bit after restart login screen jumbled

Asked by Gixxer231

Clean install of 9.04 64bit on HP Pavilion zv6000, no problems. Configured wireless without any problems. Added software (ATI control Centre was one of the packages) rebooted. After initial Ubuntu splash screen screens are jumbled like wrong resolution. Cannot login. Have tried using menu when booting into Ubuntu to auto fix graphics issue but this doesn't work. is there any way to boot into Ubuntu using a safe resolution? or a way to fix this from a live CD? I would rather not have to reinstall. Thanks

one of my students have the same issue with the same computer.
I think it's a bug (and I guess it's the ATI driver as usual :/ )

It probably is ATI. I just do not know enough of how to fix this.

Have you tried to use the open source driver?

I actually found the answer at Ubuntu forums. Was able to boot to terminal and remove fglrx*, uninstall xserverfor ati and radeon, install xserver for ati reinstall libgll and reconfigure xserver and reboot. Came right up on reboot. Thanks for the suggestions.
