ttf-mscorefonts-installer_3.6ubuntu2_all.deb where do I find the fonts?

Asked by Robert Ernster

I downloaded ttf-mscorefonts-installer_3.6ubuntu2_all.deb and installed it through Ubuntu Software installer.
Where do I find the fonts it installed so I can add them with Font Manager?
Thanks, Rob

The fonts are not in: /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts

The installer adds them so they are usable for you. It's part of the installation process. Do you think the package system wouldn't do this for you and that you'd need to process the fonts manually?

Thank you Andrew for your prompt reply. The short answer to your question is I don't know ie. I don't know what else to think.
Prior to running the ttf-mscorefonts-installer_3.6ubuntu2_all.deb, I installed the Tahoma font using a script I found on the internet and I had to add it with Font Manager before the tahoma font was visible. The tahoma.ttf file is in: /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts.

So, when I couldn't find the fonts the deb package is suppose to install as outlined here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/bionic/amd64/ttf-mscorefonts-installer/3.6ubuntu2 I thought maybe I had to do the same as thing as I did with the tahoma font but couldn't find them in: /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts either.

I just did a full power off shut down again. Waited two minutes and powered back up thinking maybe the fonts would then show up. Not so. I have looked for them in All Fonts, LiebreOffice and my text editor. The tahoma font shows up in all of those. None of the fonts outline on the page link I supply above show up?
Thanks again, Rob

Which Ubuntu release are you running? Why are you trying to manually download the ttf-mscorefonts-installer_3.6ubuntu2_all.deb file instead of using Ubuntu's package management system?

For diagnostic purposes please provide the output that you receive for the commands

uname -a
lsb_release -crid
apt-cahe policy ttf-mscorefonts-installer
sudo dpkg-reconfigure ttf-mscorefonts-installer

Thank you Manfred for your reply,
I could not find any packages that apply to these MS fonts in Ubuntu Software (I think that's what you mean by Ubuntu's package management system?). I ran GNOME Fonts which is "All Fonts" mentioned previously. The description on the installation page of GNOME Fonts says: "GNOME Fonts also supports installing new font files downloaded in the .ttf and other formats." I don't see that option in my version of "GNOME Fonts". Maybe because of the comments on that page. That's why I eventually searched for, found and ran: ttf-mscorefonts-installer_3.6ubuntu2_all.deb

Results of the commands you requested:

-re- I entered the tahoma font path the first time I ran the above = Wrong! So I it ran again:

-re- It never gave me an option to accept the license the first time I ran it. Probably because I entered the wrong path the first time or because I had accepted the license earlier in the day?

Prior to running ttf-mscorefonts-installer_3.6ubuntu2_all.deb
I ran these three installation commands from:
Source: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1081474/install-microsoft-ttf-fonts-on-ubuntu-18-04-lts

1. Install mscorefonts-installer
sudo apt install ttf-mscorefonts-installer
Running this command again now gives me:

rob@rob-MS-7721:~$ sudo apt install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

3. Install Cambria Fonts command:

The two last commands ended with: Congratulations! Installation successful!!
and the fonts are in: "All Fonts".

Results of the "Cambria fonts" command:

I still can not find the fonts outlined on: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/bionic/amd64/ttf-mscorefonts-installer/3.6ubuntu2
That's why I asked the original question:

Where do I find the fonts installed by: ttf-mscorefonts-installer_3.6ubuntu2_all.deb
and outlined on the above page?

Thanks again for your help, Rob

rob@rob-MS-7721:~$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure ttf-mscorefonts-installer
user did not accept the mscorefonts-eula license

The fonts are nowhere on your system, because you did not accept the license agreement, and thus the fonts were not installed.

Try the command

sudo apt --purge --reinstall install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

and accept the license when asked.

Thank you Manfred for your fast response,
I just ran: sudo apt --purge --reinstall install ttf-mscorefonts-installer
It ran flawlessly and all the fonts are installed.

I opened the sudo apt --purge --reinstall install ttf-mscorefonts-installer
and it says [Install] so I am assuming I do not have to remove it.

Thank you so much for solving this for me, Rob
