I have screwed up my network server.
I need to know how to reset the default network set up on my Lubuntu 18-04 LTS without losing every thing else I have just set up. Is there an easier way than reloading from my original boot disc?
NB I appear not to have set up Sudo yet nor Samba. because I have yet to get that far!!

Can you outline what you have tried to do, and which commands you tried to use?
Which kind of network do you intend to use - cable, WLAN, GSM modem, ... ?
For diagnostic purposes please copy/paste the output that you receive for the following commands (to be executed in a terminal window):
uname -a
lsb_release -crid
sudo lshw -C network
nmcli -t device show

Question - What application are you using to configure networking on the system?
Previous Answer - Attempted Three tasks Using "Network Connections" (2 elements) and
"Network Settings"(to Add Domain name WORKGROUP)
"Network Connections" and "Network Settings" are the two applications that are included in "Lubuntu" by default.
They were preset during the Installation process and the connection to the internet was operating correctly until....
Once I tried to figure out how to change the settings within these "APPS", and attempted to invoke Firefox or Sylfeed, I received an error notice "...unable to connect to the Server".
In hindsight I should have noted the default settings within these two apps before I started to "dabble"..

I am sorry, but I have problems interpreting your information.
The question title tells "I have screwed up my network server"
In one of the recent answers you write "Server????????" which looks to me as if you do not understand which server I was asking about.
Please give a short sketch of your desired network layout.
I understand that there is a router, connected to the public Internet. How do the computers connetct to it, via cable or WLAN?
How many additional computers are there? What is their function? Is one of them designed to be a server for other ones? If yes, serving what - files, printing, or acting as a WLAN router, or ...?
If we do not know what you want to achieve, we can hardly tell what to do to achieve that.

Please accept my apologies for the confusion I have caused, the original
question posted was simply a "Paraphrase" of the message I was getting,
when I tried to connect to either Firefox or Sylfeed.
Herewith my "verbal sketch" of my desired layout.
* The main Desk-Top Computer is a Win 10/64 - It is connected to
/my Router/ by an Ethernet Cable. In turn, /my Router/ is
connected to the Public Internet by an Ethernet Cable, which is
connected to the "Service Provider's Router"(used solely as a
connection point to the Public Internet), which is in turn
connected to the Service Provider (China Telecom) by Optical Cable.
* My Huawei Phone and my Wife's phone are connected by Wifi /to my
Router/.
* The TV Top Box is connected by Wifi /to my Router/.
* My Notebook, a Samsung N-145, /should be/ connected by WiFi (or
at least it was until I did something wrong?) /to my Router/.
All of the files I wish to share are located within the PC.
My Printer is connected via a USB cable to the PC.
The Wifi connections for the Phones and the TV Top Box /are still
working normally./

Can you try the following:
Temporarily connect the notebook to the router with an Ethernet cable. This will hopefully enable networking over Ethernet (not WLAN).
Execute the commands in step 1 and step 2 of
https:/
and copy/paste all output into this question document.

I will have to revert tomorrow and try again, as I was called away
before it had chance to complete the routine.
Meanwhile some good news, Wireless Wifi has now been restored, thanks to
my going through the steps you have so far asked of me, and re-defining
a new WIFI Connection!!
Many thanks for your diligence and patience.

As mentioned briefly last evening, your earlier replies inspired me to look more closely at my existing Lubuntu configuration. As I had already started this work before your latest response, I continued as per the notes below:-
From System Tools - Network- we get Network Settings
General Tab - Host Name - john-N250P...Domain Name - "Blank"
DNS Tab - DNS Servers - 127.0.0.53...Search Domains - "Blank"
Hosts Tab - Defaults IP Address - Aliases
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 john-N250P.
192.168.1.1 Wifihost
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff00::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allroutes
I added 192.168.1.1 "Wifihost" Yesterday, just before I got your last message.
From Preferences - Network Connections, now shows Name Last Used
Ethernet - Wired connection 2 3 minutes ago
Wi-Fi - MERCURY 802 2 2 minutes ago
I have just now (07:45/16th September/China Time) confirmed that I am connected to the server on the Note-Book.
That just leaves me to solve and test the "Workgroup" settings.
I suspect that it has something to do with correcting the IP Address setting at line 2 of the Host Tab Defaults?
To sum up, I am now able to connect by both Wifi and by Ethernet. I am therefore, very grateful for all of the time you have put in helping me, and no longer terrified at using the "Terminal".
Best wishes - John
