screen blinking & flickering

Asked by achapp

Samsung SyncMaster 510N Monitor is flickering and blinking like a TubeLight.

I have Tried:-

 1. Check Both ends of Signal cable and power cable.

 2. Formatted and Installed Fresh Copy of Windows XP SP2.

 3. Installed the Monitor Driver from Monitor CD.

 4. Tried different Resolutions and Frequency Refresh Rate ( 50 ~ 75 ).

 5. Uninstall and Reinstall the Video card driver.(Intel 915GAG Express Chipset Family).

 6. Cleaned all Sockets, Plugs, interior and Exterior of CPU.

 7. Tried all the Options in Monitor's OSD Menu.(Gamma ,Natural Color , Magic Tune).

WHAT CAN BE THE PROBLEM WHEN RUNNING THE TERMINAL

Hello !

Please, when posting on a place like this, avoid using upper case, as it uncomfortable to read (and considered quite rude).

Do you use framebuffer console (vesa) ?

Regards,
Benoît

A idea:
Go to gnome-terminal or similar and write the command:
cut /boot/grub/menu.lst | grep "vga="

If the out is nothing then do the follow:
gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

Goto to the first line which start with "kernel" word, it is like it:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20 .....
You must add at the end of this line the word: vga=792

save file, close , reboot and check if the problem persist.
(You can use many vga= values)
Colours 640x480 800x600 1024x768 1280x1024
256 769 771 773 775
32000 784 787 790 793
65000 785 788 791 794
16.7 Mill. 786 789 792 795

You can test with 792 if you have a 15" monitor or 795 if you have 17" or 19"

Hello !

For the command recommended by Antonio above, there is a typo, you must read "cat /boot/grub/menu.lst | grep "vga="" instead of "cut /boot/grub/menu.lst | grep "vga="".

Benoît
