9.04 won't boot

trying to boot from 9.04 CD, I get absolutely no information on the screen, but sounds like it gets booted up (I here the login sound). The screen stays black. I am now running 8.10 Intrepid with no issues at all.
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
memory 1.516 GB
Nvidia video card AGP 8x 128 MB
Monitor View Sonic VA912-4

Please use the alternate installation CD to install in that case.

If you run in to any further troubles after installation, please update.
