Clicking on Dock icons only able to maximize but unable to minimize

Asked by නොදන්නා

Opened applications

Currently click on dock icons only help to maximize application and unable to minimize by click on the same icon once again. (Then we have to bring cursor to maximized application minimize button)

But on windows 10 has that facility.

Ubuntu desktop latest (default)

@bernard010 No. You've misunderstood the problem.

Yes. at first clicking on an dock icon only launch certain application.

But if that application already launched(and minimized by user) then we can maximize the application by click on that dock icon.

(The problem) next, if click again on that same dock icon then it doesn't help to minimize (but that's possible on windows 10)

So on ubuntu, we have to waste some seconds to bring the cursor to certain application built-in minimize button. we actually have to waste more time for a day.

That is the setting on Ubuntu By the Developers. When you minimize the icon to maximize that icon is with the same method as you described. On my Ubuntu 20.04, I just Launched Rhythmbox and clicked the -sign on the icon it went to the Dock with a red dot
next to it. I then clicked the same icon with the red dot next to it it opened to full screen.
Is your Ubuntu behaving differently from mine. Have you updated it recently ?

@bernard010 I do not mean about keyboard shortcuts and this issue related GUI

Here's the problem
"(The problem) next, if click again on that same dock icon then it doesn't help to minimize (but that's possible on windows 10)"

(By click on dock icon)
Launch certain application - possible
Maximize already launched application (if it minimized) - possible
Minimize already launched application (if it maximized) - not possible
(User has to use certain application built in minimize button instead)

Then i prefer ubuntu enhance that facility [3].

"Is your Ubuntu behaving differently from mine. Have you updated it recently ?"
I have several. All are updated.

Quote: "Minimize already launched application (if it maximized) - not possible"
Ubuntu's developers designed the Operating system as they did.
This is the same standard through all of Linux O.S. s.
The minus sign [-] is how to minimize each window.
Quote: "User has to use certain application built in minimize button instead)"
This by design is the same standard by Developers, Each Application has minimize - sign and partial screen , full screen.
To change any of this you would have to contact the Developers directly.
Windows 10 has certain propitiatory patents on their operating system, which are not open source.
Therefore, Linux is unable to use in their operation system.
Thanks

@bernard010 Thanks for explanation and i'm not familiar with ubuntu launchpad however i have two questions.

1. Is there way to submit bugs to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu > bugs section directly without open question or go through 'apport' procedure? (because that's not suitable for some bugs that affect for whole components or particular facilities)
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs

2. "This by design is the same standard by Developers, Each Application has minimize - sign and partial screen , full screen.
To change any of this you would have to contact the Developers directly."
I'm not prefer to let that away and even that is small gui problem; it's necessary to improve ubuntu much as possible. Just how to contact developers directly for purpose such enhancement?
