no sound with ubuntu 8.10, on XP it's OK

My problem is that i can't hear anything and the system doesn't produce any sound.

on Windows XP it's OK. i have HD realtek Audio as integrated sound card.

do you need further information?

i have ubutnu 8.10..

may you help me?
