Nautilus "Error formatting volume" on cd drive, 18.04.4 LTS

Asked by Phil Norisez on 2020-07-12

Attempting to format a CD onto which to write files, I receive a popup error window "Error formatting volume," that has the additional text, "Error wiping device: Failed to open the device '/dev/sr0' (udisks-error-quark,0). " On the same hardware (ThinkPad Edge, Intel Core i5) , booted into Windows 10 and it had no problem formatting the same disc and writing the file. Is this a bug?

I suggest you use a CD tool like Brasero to wipe your CDRW media. It'll probably be OK there. If that's no good try XFBurn.

Brasero did it. Thanks.
