Set Metacity Default WM in Feisty

Asked by yanko

Hi!
I'm somehow obsessed with understanding how to handle different WMs.
My default WM is set to Compiz (which is standard in Ubuntu F, I suppose). I've got also Metacity installed, and after log-in I can force a change to Metacity with $ metacity --replace. But that's not so nice to do after every login. I read somewhere, that inserting "exec metacity" in the ~/.xinitrc file helps. But it doesn't work for me.

Greets,
yanko

Hi
the default WM in feisty is actually metacity, what i think you may have done is enabled desktop effects at some point, it will stay as the default wm until you disable desktop effects in System -> Preferences -> Desktop Effects

Hi Gord,
when I execute $ metacity --replace; the WM obviously changes. It looks different and doesn't have some bugs, compiz has. When I then execute $ compiz --replace; I get the WM which I had on login. All of that with disabled desktop effects.

Hi!
Once you replace the WM it becomes default.
