Python 3.5 Support in Xenial after Python 3.5 EOL

Asked by Joshua Schwartz

Python 3.5 end of life is September 2020 however Xenial end of life is April 2021. Are there any plans to backport security fixes for Python 3.5 or provide official Python 3.6 (or greater) support in Xenial after September 2020?

I would assume it will be updated. Ubuntu should not have EOL packages in it so this will be updated soon. Python is a large part of Ubuntu so this will take a lot of planning and scheduling.

Thanks for the reply, I also assume they would, but we really need a more definitive answer as we'll be making business decisions based on the level of support.

I'd use it as a catalyst to upgrade to a newer release

Since this is an inquiry about Canonincal and their support policy rather than asking for support itself, you may be better off asking Canonical directly: https://ubuntu.com/contact-us/form?product=generic-contact-us

Can you help with this problem?
