If you install Xming you can connect using PuTTY and enable X forwarding. When you run a GUI app in the terminal it will appear on your Windows system but be running on the server side.

Is this what you mean?

Also, the sound will come out of the server side if you run media based apps which can be handy if you want to remote control sound output and don't have something setup like VLC Web UI or Spotify etc etc.

Or do you want to be able to manage Zone minder using SSH/CLI only?

thanks very much for getting back to me.

your first comment is exactly what I want.

I will use the windows client when traveling and the server gui when I am at home

Doesn't zoneminder have a Web ui? You can make an SSH tunnel to that then connect to it using the tunnel to your internal system. Would that be better?

do you recommend a particular gui app for the terminal connection

and do I need to turn off the daily use gui that I run on the server or will they coexist (they would never run concurrently

On the Windows system you can run:

putty -L 80:127.0.0.1:80 -N -f -l username@serverip

You can then access http://localhost in Windows and you'll go down the SSH tunnel to your Web interface. Obviously use a different port number if it isn't port 80. This is one way you can secure non-secure protocols over the Web.

ok let me try to do this, it sounds much better, will you be around for a little while

I am using Tailscale to get from the web to my server then putty to access the terminal, how does this change with what you are suggesting

let me follow up:

I am able to create the ssh shell.
What command format do I have to use in the terminal to start the console ui

If you look in /usr/share/applications you will see the items that make up the application menu when you press SuperL (Windows key) or click the icon in the top left. If you run something like:

sudo grep -i zone /usr/share/applications/* | grep -i exec

It should give you a command you can run

If you have enabled the X forwarding in PuTTY and installed and are running Xming (or similar) so that you have an X server the application can run in then you will see the application appear

Re-sized the NTFS partition and hooked up at the loose area; have tried numerous re-installs in view that then, attempted manually solving Grub, however I suppose I'm possibly trying to fix the wrong matters. Learn about the bug here https://erasurvey.org/www-htsurvey-com/

Re-sized the NTFS segment and connected at the free region; have attempted various re-introduces in view that then, at that point, endeavored physically settling Grub, but I guess I'm conceivably attempting to fix some unacceptable issues. Find out about the bug here. Also, give feedback on https://bit.ly/hdcomss about HD.
