How can I try to debug a keyboard extra key not working?

I had a question about an extra key not working (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/691511), and I filed a bug about it (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1885033), but noone seemed to get interested.

Key in question : Fn-F6, touchpad toggle for Lenovo IdeaPad L340-15IRH - Type 81LK

Therefore, I wondered if anyone could guide me to where I could find the reasons of this bug:

Neither xev nor ev-test seem to register the key, so the issue would be earlier. Which files are responsible for handling keys at the" lowest level?

As per the bug report, only Lenovo can do something
