Need help to installing Ubuntu without losing Windows 10 Data

Asked by Chinmay Rajyaguru

I would like to install Ubuntu without losing Windows drive data.

Here's my Window 10 Setup:

C Drive (SSD 250GB) [Wherein installed Windows 10]
D Drive (2TB Data)
I can fully format the C drive. Once I install Ubuntu's latest OS, can I get D drive access? Or I'll lose all data of drive D?

In D drive, I have important Softwares, photos, games, and data (.EXE and windows format files). Will I lose it?

Is there any option or way to install Ubuntu without losing it?

I'm already using LibreOffice, 7Zip, GIMP, etc. I'm not using any Windows software anymore. Hence, I would like to move on permanently in the Linux world.

You can resize your D: to make free space to install Ubuntu to. I suggest you do this in Windows and be sure you run a full backup before starting this (if your data is important). This will make a dual boot.

Your games won't work in Linux and will need installing natively or in WINE (If they work in WINE at all).

If you want to remove Windows and use ONLY Ubuntu then you can wipe the disk with C: on it off of the system (in Ubuntu installer) and then tell Ubuntu to install there. I'd also suggest wiping the 2Tb drive and formatting the drive to Ext4 and then restoring your user data back to it

NTFS access in Linux is a best effort attempt because NTFS is proprietary to Microsoft. Only they know how it works. It's not perfect. If you use a Linux file system in Linux you will have fewer issues (NTFS cannot hold Linux ACLs for example).

Backups will keep you safe.

Can you help with this problem?
