problem to install ubuntu 20.04 onto dell Inspiron 15 7567

Asked by yurij

I've tried to install ubuntu 20.04 more than 10 times. it always hangs (more than 10 minues without any progress, in most cases mouse cursor disappears) but on random stage: it could be either "try ubuntu", or any step after wifi setup window.
Windows 10 and Linux mint 19.03 was checked and installed fine with intel and nvidia gpus detected and they are also works fine.
i install it from usb with iso image.
Could you please advice me how to install it?

Thank you.

Did you MD5 test the Ubuntu ISO you downloaded or use torrents to pull down the file?
Did you select to install updates during install? (I suggest you don't).

- Yes, before the screen with "install" button, the process checks files on the usb, and always finished with a report "no errors".
Also, I'd like to mention, that i've checked via dell Assistant in UEFI a RAM and SSD and HDD disks (it took a couple of hours, but no errors were found).

Did you select to install updates during install? (I suggest you don't).
- yes, i've tried with different options, and i think, that install goes better without a checkbox about upload updates, but it could be just a feeling.

I wish I have a way to read and provide logs for you ( and for me ) , but i do not know how to gather them. Sometimes in rare cases i have a window with "Details" label below, and if click there are some messages in terminal-like text area, but there is a too small area to read them, and sometimes they move too fast, and i have no opportunity to write them down or anything else.

Is this to be a dual boot or is Ubuntu going to be the only OS on the?

I tried both of types. Initially i've started with dual boot with win 10 pro, but after some attempts, I set to erase the whole disk and install only ubuntu 20.04 but it hangs for a lot of time too.

Do you have the latest BIOS?

Yes, before it I've recently updated the last version (13 Mar 2020) of bios from dell support site. So, all attempts to install ubuntu 20 were after the update.

This is a guess, provided you are able to do so; while the installer hangs you can probably switch to a TTY to inspect these three https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity#During_installation_or_from_a_Live_Session, the logs are going to be in installer probably or like Calamares.log or Ubiquity.log in `/var/log`, take a look at them to find some error information. Or switch to a live session, install it from there, when the installer hangs, look into the log files. You can also attach them here if you want from a live session while installing.

Can you help with this problem?
