Do you want a dual boot system or is Ubuntu going to be the only OS on the system?

I assume you have backed up the important data on the system before you started the Ubuntu install.

Yes I have backed up my docs. I use Googledocs anyway. I'm happy to use the
whole SSD single partition and write over windows completely.
Ill just be happy to have a working OS I don't have to boot from a stick.

Did you set legacy boot in BIOS? This will help. You don't need UEFI if you aren't booting Windows. Tell the installer to use the whole disk

Thankyou for your reply.
Yes I told the installer to use the whole disk. Actually the cpu BIOS
boot was set to legacy but I changed to UEFI.
After 3 attempts I now have a working Kubuntu on my laptop without the USB
boot disc (TRY KUBUNTU) inserted. HOORAY!
I hope it boots up everytime now. I was wondering if the boot sector was
damaged.
Could the format & reinstalled OS have repaired the bad sector??
