Many audio issues on Dell G3 15 3590

Asked by Gabriel Tognella Poccia

Olá!

I'm a newcomer on Linux, recently installed Ubuntu 18.04 on a new Dell G3 15 3590. From the beginning I had no audio. I tried many solutions (reload alsa, reinstall pulse audio, check bios etc), my situation was very similar to this one https://askubuntu.com/questions/1220493/18-04-audio-realtek-alc3254-fails-on -new-dell-g3-15-3590. So, I tried loading a older kernel version, 5.3.0-28, and then the audio started to work! However, no microphones were detected. On pavucontrol the microphones were available, but “unplugged”. When I plugged a headphone the internal microphones became puggled, but if I selected it, then the headphone would be mute. Found out that many people have the same problem with this Dell model and other pcs. Tried other kernels, and none solved. In the end, I managed to do some things:

Added snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect = 0 to grub parameters, it made 5.3.0-53 kernel load the correct driver, but no mic yet. Then I added options snd-hda-intel model = headset-mic in alsa-base.conf. This made my mic being recognized correctly, however no sound are capture yet.

Checked ubuntu and found this https://certification.ubuntu.com/hardware/201906-27107 my notebook model were tested with this 5.0.0-1017-oem-osp1 kernel, but I don't know how to install this version. Would be very happy if I could solve this issues for once and for all (or almost).

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:canonical-kernel-team/ppa
sudo apt-get update

You then install the kernel using package names here:

Tried oem_osp1 latest kernel, but didn't solve. Audio returned to "dummy output".
