After kernel update PC won't power off at shut down

Today I updated to the latest kernel version of linux ubuntu (as offered by the the system). Since this update the PC won't power off when shutting down. The only chance is to power off manually.
Actually, I noticed that when starting the kernel update, some off the kernel update files were size 0 MB.
What can I do in order to re-achieve automatic power off by using the shut down button?
