a fail in graphics driver and a blank screen while starting up Ubuntu

Asked by omar mohamed beshir on 2020-05-15

i've an issue just in startup process i bought the pc with ubuntu 18.04 on it

[from about in settings]
Processor Intel® Core™ i5-8265U CPU @ 1.60GHz × 8
Graphics Intel® UHD Graphics (Whiskey Lake 3x8 GT2)

it was working fine till i ran sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade (i've ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS )
every tme i turn on the computer i got a purple blank screen and no progress
what i tried
in grub screen
1) nouveau.modeset=0 in the end of linux-started line doesn't soleved the problem
2) nomodeset instead of nouveau.modeset=0 (it didn't work from the first time works rarely and i realised that the charger must be pluged in i don't no the reason i've realized it while rebooting the PC several times, the battery works fine )
3) advanced options in grub (there is 4 recovery mode) then the first recovery mode then dpkg then resume i found a message says
(graphics driver fails...) then i found the grphics details changed [from about in settings] Graphics llvmpipe (LLVM 9.0, 256 bits)
with no brightness changing option
4) i found that i've intel (i915) and radeon graphics card so i tried i915.modeset=0 radeon.modeset=0 instead of nouveau.modeset=0
>> it works rarely i've to reboot several times to make it work and i got Graphics llvmpipe (LLVM 9.0, 256 bits) which is very poor
i also tried i915.modeset=1 radeon.modeset=0 and the same problem works rarely but the graphics Intel® UHD Graphics (Whiskey Lake 3x8 GT2) this time i made these changes in sudo gedit /etc/default/grub too next to quiet splash
i also released quiet splash in order to understand the problem and i got purple blank screen many times too and some times gives me many details while starting up.
5) i saw solutions about reinstalling the graphics driver in terminal but these solutions was for nividia graphics like sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia* and autoremove then rebooting.
the PC performance is good and the battery works fine
